Since the focus of my writing is mysteries then what better place to start then....the greatest detective. I realize every one has an opinion on this, but as for me it has to be Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes in real life was based on Dr. Joseph Bell, a renown forensic scientist. What makes an amazing detective? Is is ability, knowledge or crazy quirks that help solve the case....what do you think? Sherlock's methods were based on Dr. Bell's method of observation and deduction...what could we tell about a situation or person from what we observe? How much do we really see around us? I believe my favorite thing about Sherlock was how he could deduce an entire situation from a shred of evidence. Granted Sherlock is a fictional character, however there are other great detectives in real life. I'll mention some of them in a later post....but for now fiction or not Sherlock Holmes is, in my book, the greatest detective.
